A web studio built for
the practice of law.

Dangerous Centaur builds practice websites, client intake systems, secure matter portals, and AI tools for solo and small San Diego law firms. We handle the technology. You stay in the work.

Built for the firm that doesn't have an IT department.

Solo practitioners and small firms. Attorneys who are ready to stop managing passwords, outdated websites, and intake that leaks leads.

San Diego, and the clients who need a bilingual firm.

We build in English and Spanish from the same codebase — not a translated copy pasted alongside. Forms, intake questions, and intake routing are bilingual end-to-end, so nothing gets lost when a client switches languages mid-intake.

Four things we build for law firms.

01

Practice website

A bilingual-optional site that tells the firm's story clearly — readable on a phone, fast everywhere, and structured so search engines understand who you are and what you practice. Copywriting and photography guidance included.

02

Client intake

Web forms that qualify leads, surface conflict-check questions, collect e-signatures, and route inquiries to the right inbox or calendar slot — before the first phone call. Reduces the time between a new inquiry and a booked consultation.

03

MatterBerth client portal

A private per-matter workspace where clients access documents, see case status, and communicate with your team without creating an account. Attorneys and paralegals see only what they need. Clients click a link — nothing to remember.

04

AI integrations

A drafting assistant, intake chat, or summarization workflow that understands your practice area. Deployed on the firm's own hardware for absolute privacy, or through a major provider under a data-processing agreement when the firm prefers managed infrastructure.

How an engagement runs.

Every project follows the same five stages. No surprises, no scope creep without a conversation.

One

Discovery call

We learn the firm's practice, client types, current pain points, and what success looks like. No charge for this call.

Two

Fixed quote

A written scope and single number. The quote covers everything in scope. Work does not start until you approve it.

Three

Build

We build to the approved spec and share progress. Change requests outside scope are quoted before they start.

Four

Launch

Final review with you, then we deploy and confirm everything is working. We stay available through the first week.

Five

Care plan

Optional ongoing maintenance, updates, and support. Month-to-month, no long-term contract required.

MatterBerth: a private workspace for every matter.

Most client portals require clients to create an account — and then never log in again. MatterBerth gives each client a magic link: they click it and they're in. No password, no account creation, no friction. The workspace is per-matter, not per-firm: each client sees only their case, and nothing about any other client ever surfaces. The feature list below reflects what is live today, what we build on request, and what is planned.

MatterBerth now has its own home: matterberth.com →

Changes on request — describe a new tab, tracker, or connection to the tools you already use (for example Outlook or Google Calendar, Dropbox, or your e-billing) in plain words, and MatterBerth builds it into your matter. Custom work is scoped and quoted before it starts.on request

Two ways to deploy AI in a firm.

The right choice depends on the firm's sensitivity requirements, existing hardware, and comfort with third-party data handling. We are direct about the tradeoffs.

Private deployment

Models run on the firm's own server or a dedicated machine we provision for you. Client data never leaves the hardware the firm controls. There is no third-party cloud provider with access to matter content. Performance depends on the hardware, and models are updated manually.

Good fit: criminal defense, immigration, and any practice where client data sensitivity makes cloud-based processing a concern — even with a data-processing agreement.

Frontier models under a data-processing agreement

Models from major providers — accessed through a properly executed data-processing agreement that governs data retention, usage, and deletion. Faster response, more capable models, and no hardware to maintain. The DPA is part of every engagement contract.

Good fit: firms comfortable with cloud infrastructure and willing to review the DPA, who want the most capable available models without running their own hardware.

We do not make claims about what AI can do for legal outcomes. We build the integration, explain the tradeoffs, and let the attorney decide how to use it in practice.

Common questions.

Who owns the data?

The firm owns all data — client information, documents, and content. We build and host the infrastructure, but ownership never transfers to us. On termination you receive a full export of everything stored in the system.

Who hosts the site and portal?

We host on AWS (Amazon Web Services) under your firm's domain. The firm's domain name is always in the firm's own registrar account. If you prefer to own the hosting infrastructure directly, that is available and adds a modest cost to manage.

What happens if we part ways?

We deliver a full export of all data, hand over all credentials, and document everything we built so another vendor can maintain it. There is no vendor lock-in by design — static sites and standard AWS infrastructure mean any qualified developer can take over. We include a one-month transition window in every engagement.

Can the site and intake forms be in Spanish?

Yes. Bilingual builds are available for all four services. We build EN/ES from the same codebase — not two separate sites. Forms, labels, and routing logic are bilingual end to end. You provide any firm-specific content in both languages, or we can coordinate translation.

Do you handle Bar compliance and ethics review?

We are not attorneys and do not provide legal or ethics advice. For website copy, we follow general guidance on lawyer advertising (no results-based claims, no guarantees). For the AI and intake features, we give the firm the tools and documentation to make an informed decision; attorney oversight is the firm's responsibility. We recommend counsel review any AI-generated client-facing content before it goes live.

What does "pricing on request" mean?

Every engagement is scoped to what the firm actually needs. A fixed quote is provided after a discovery call — typically within two business days. There are no hourly billing surprises; the quote is the number.

Start a conversation.

Describe the firm's situation and what you're trying to fix. We'll respond within one business day with whether we can help and how a project might be scoped.
